The focus of the presentations will be on the successful local battles in the South against the Klan waged by the new Department of Justice, especially in 1871-73; the decisions of the US Supreme Court gutting the potential reach of the Civil War Constitutional Amendments; and the reasons for the ultimate failure to protect the formerly enslaved.
