Jerry Herman was not an innovator like some of his contemporaries, but he wrote good-old-fashioned Broadway musicals.  He writes instantly recognizable tunes, and is a throwback to an earlier era in Broadway. Herman had three massive hits, Hello Dolly, Mame and LaCage aux Folles, which ensured his place as one of the greats of the second half of the 20th Century. Even his lesser shows have memorable songs that remain favorities and continue to entertain.
